Job Description

Could you help shape the future of renewable energy by identifying and securing grid connection opportunities for solar and battery storage projects?

We're looking for a Grid Connections Analyst to join Elgin. Working closely with our Development, Engineering and Investment teams, the Grid Connections Analyst will play a key role in identifying and evaluating grid connection opportunities across the UK for our Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

The role will involve analysing grid capacity, assessing connection options and associated risks, supporting grid connection applications, and managing connection agreements. The Grid Connections Analyst will help drive projects from early-stage development through to connection optimisation and delivery, ensuring commercially viable and technically robust outcomes.

What you will do:
  • Use mapping tools and datasets to assess network headroom to identify potential points of connection and priority areas for new site development.
  • Monitor industry changes such as Connection Reforms, Network Development Plans and the connections queue.
  • Assess connection options, alternative points of connection, reinforcement requirements and curtailment exposure.
  • Prepare preliminary connection cost and network risk assessments.
  • Prepare and submit grid connection applications and support review of grid connection offers.
  • Monitor other Grid related metrics such as Use of System Charges and Securities and Liabilities.
  • Undertake curtailment modelling, project optimisation and power system analysis.
  • Provide clear grid intelligence and recommendations to development, engineering and investment teams.
  • Ability to interpret various data sources to produce guidance or recommendations.
  • Ability to use and monitor performance of bespoke software tools.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles relating to renewable energy projects.
  • Good stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate technical requests and assess contractor performance.
  • Ability to understand the complex techno-economic impacts of grid connections on renewable project financial models and delivery programmes.

Your profile

What you will need:
  • Appropriate degree in Electrical/Energy Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience working in a connections-focused environment within a DNO, TNO, power system engineering consultancy or other IPP.
  • Experience interpreting and negotiating connection offers and de-risking connection-related commercial and technical matters as they relate to project investment and delivery.
  • Knowledge of the technical fundamentals relating to grid connections.
  • Knowledge of the DNO/ICP process for embedded generator connections in the UK.
  • Evidence of working successfully on multiple projects to demanding deadlines.
